9th Grade Career Day
Career Day is one day out of the year where instead of attending regular classes you are able to shadow a possible career interest. Each student individually contacts possible mentor options through email, phone call, or personal connections. This helps students to find and pursue their interest at a young age. By shadowing people in different careers we will be able to find what we would and would not like to pursue as a future career choice.
Shadow Experience: Veterinarian Staff of the LA Zoo
Due to medical policies, I was unable to actually shadow for a day, but I was able to lead a small interview and was given a tour of the facility. During the tour, I got to see where veterinarians conduct check-ups and procedures, plus I got to see the major tools used to keep the animals healthy. I interviewed the lead veterinarian, but due to privacy terms, I am unable to state names. We had a discussion about the conservatory efforts and adaptation research conducted by the LA Zoo. I was amazed how much effort goes into conservation and research. Through this experience, I learned that I would not like to be a veterinarian, but I am interested in conservation of plants, animal, and the earth.
