8. Do you feel confident that you understand the lasting impact of the Renaissance? How so?
English:
- Writing through the eyes of our given character (Queen Elizabeth I)
- Group activities that allowed for communication between students and writing a Eulogy to The Roman Empire
- Drawing tarot cards and learning a game that is the basis for many modern games
- Testing different San Diego water sources to analyze their organic pollutants
- Rating the challenge level on a 1-10 scale I would have to say the renaissance project ranked a 7. There were some challenges, but overall the challenges could be solved or overcome. I do believe the renaissance project was challenging but doable.
3. What aspect of this project was most challenging? Be specific and describe it. What would have helped you with this aspect if you did the project again?
- The most challenging aspect of the Renaissance project was working in such a large group. It is hard to have 20 peoples ideas compiled into one overarching product. If I ever come across working in a fairly large group in the future, which I know will happen, I would solve this conflict by splitting up the entire group into multiple sub-groups that each had a leader. This way everyone’s voices could be heard and brought forth by the leader of the sub-group. This would also make the entire group more productive as a whole due to each group being able to work in a specific area or product. I feel this would not only solve the problem of working in such a large group, but also would have helped improve our part of the exhibition as a whole.
4. Did you receive critique and feedback from anyone for your written piece? If so, who? Was the feedback helpful?
- I received feedback from Sophia Morrison, Angeline Santa Romana, and Devon Gibson on my written piece. I was given grammar and punctuation corrections and suggestions. For example, in one part of my writing piece, I explain Queen Elizabeth's feelings after her sister’s, Mary Tudor, death. Angeline Santa Romana suggested that I changed up the sentence structure and added more past tense words to allow for the reader to catch on to the concept that Elizabeth was looking back on the past after her older sister's death. Another example would be, how Devon Gibson helped me with word choice, one change she suggested was to replace politics with the court and “Queen” (Queen Elizabeth serving as queen before legally installed into the position) with a proxy. The feedback these three wonderful ladies gave me helped to improve my entire writing piece. At first, my writing piece was a detailed outline, but by the end of the critique and suggestion session, I had an almost complete writing piece with the confidence to finish with the new ideas I gained.
5. How proud of your written piece are you? Why?
- I am very proud of my written piece. I created multiple journal entries the show snippets of Queen Elisabeth I life. I then used my written journal entries and created a leather journal with tea stain pages to resemble an old renaissance journal. Writing is not one of my strongest points, but this writing option was fun and almost easy for me to write. Don’t get me wrong, the journal entries were challenging to write, but it was almost as if for each entry I knew what to write, the words sort of just flowed out of me. While writing the journal entries I felt almost as if I connected with Queen Elizabeth I. Looking into her past decisions and speeches/writings gave me a sense of her personality. Overall I am very proud of my writing piece because I got to research and understand history and Queen Elizabeth I through a personal level and use this connection to create my final writing piece.
6. Think about our exhibition, are you happy with how you did? Why or why not?
- I am extremely happy with how I performed during our exhibition. I feel I was in character, attitude and outfit, and was able to convey the importance of the Renaissance through the history of my character, Queen Elizabeth I, in an engaging manner. I interacted with many people, especially when I was sitting on the throne I was asked many questions and talked to almost every guest who walked by. Overall I am very proud of my performance at our exhibition and feel that I was a very knowledgeable source when it came to the history of the Renaissance.
7. Were you able to interact with guests in a knowledgeable manner? Think about the costume, guest interactions, prop design, and content knowledge.
- As I stated in the previous question, I feel I was in character, attitude and outfit, and was able to convey the importance of the Renaissance through the history of my character, Queen Elizabeth I, in an engaging manner. Focusing more on the costume, I wore a renaissance queen dress and created a royal golden sash to show Queen Elizabeth I importance. I feel throughout the entire exhibition I was interacting with guests or my fellow peers to recreate our version of the Renaissance.
a. If you could change something about this project, what would it be? - As I stated in the third question, I feel the one thing that could've been changed was splitting our larger group into smaller sub-groups, each having a leader. I feel this would have allowed for every group members ideas and opinions to be more easily heard and incorporated. I feel this would also improve our productivity due to being able to assign each sub-group a job. Also allowing for the state of our area to improve. Overall I feel by making this slight change we could have improved our part of the exhibition as a whole.
8. Do you feel confident that you understand the lasting impact of the Renaissance? How so?
- I am very confident that I understand the lasting impact of the Renaissance. The renaissance stabilized and laid the foundation for literally everything we know today. During the Renaissance, they were able to look into the past to improve the present and create a successful future. This aspect changed the way the entire world moved forward in innovation, education, and discoveries. Without the renaissance the world as we know it would be set back a multitude of years. Plus the renaissance era was the era in which many old things were modified and new things created. For example, the development of literacy. Overall I feel I understand the lasting impact the renaissance has on modern society and our future.
